Sevilla are still looking for a new manager, nearly three weeks after the end of the season and the departure of interim choice Joaquin Caparros. New Sporting Director Antonio Cordon has arrived, but he will not be able to bring in his first choice candidate to take over as manager.
Los Nervionenses had been closely linked with Getafe’s Jose Bordalas , but President Angel Torres has declared he will remain at the club for next season. Departing Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil had been cited as the top choice, and reportedly a deal had been agreed with the Basque manager, but it appears a deal is now off the table.
Alguacil talks breakdown
Despite reports that a deal had been agreed for Alguacil to head to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Matteo Moretto was the first to break the news that the deal would not be going ahead. MD say that the latest conversations with Cordon had cooled the interest in a move. Diario AS say that Alguacil found the prospect of coaching Sevilla was appealing, but that ‘they didn’t make it easy for him at all’.

Sevilla in talks with new option
Sevilla have now made a move for new option, Argentine manager Matias Almeyda of AEK Athens. ‘The little tractor’ as he is nicknamed in his home country is keen on joining the club, and talks are already underway for him to come into the club. Bordalas is no longer an option on the table.
As a player, he was at one point the most expensive player in their history, and as a manager, he has developed a career with Banfield, San Diego Earthquakes, Chivas and AEK, winning trophies for the latter two. Portuguese manager Jorge Jesus is also a candidate, but Almeyda appears to be the top choice.

Report: Bears' Ben Johnson screamed at Caleb Williams during training camp
There is no ramp-up period for the Chicago Bears at training camp this year. Head coach Ben Johnson brought the same intensity he harbored during OTAs at the Bears’ first practice of training camp Wednesday at Halas Hall in Lake Forest, Illinois. Adam Hoge of CHGO Bears said that Johnson was upset with Williams and the offense multiple times on Wednesday. He got into the face of the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft during a seven-on-seven drill. “Accountability is what I’m talking about, though, because, look, it was like a three-strike thing, let’s call three strikes, and you’re out all right,” Hoge said on the CHGO podcast. “Because we saw Ben get in Caleb’s, you know what, during seven-on-sevens about something. I don’t know what it was about, but he wasn’t happy, and he was screaming at him, alright.” Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson tried to show patience Johnson tried to show patience with the second mistake, when there was a miscommunication with the wide receivers getting lined up. Caleb Williams is picking up where he left off in OTAs Per multiple reports, the Bears’ offense had a poor day. Mark Carman called Williams’ performance on Wednesday the worst part of practice. “Today was just bad,” Carman said. “They had to pull the offense off the field. (Williams) wasn’t getting them lined up. It might not have been his fault every single time...his first pass was picked off (by linebacker Tremaine Edmunds). “He rolled right on long play, Cold Kmet’s wide open right in front of him. He ended up running out of bounds. It just wasn’t a good day for the quarterback.” Williams didn’t have a great spring. He struggled with every duty from calling the play in the huddle to getting the cadence right to throwing the ball into the middle of the field or further than 10 yards. As of Day 1 at camp, all of those things are still problems. But at least the $13 million per year head coach is mad.
Canucks continue talks with Jack Roslovic, his ask poses problems
A team that has gone through several changes already this summer, the Vancouver Canucks remain active, currently engaged in discussions with unrestricted free agent forward Jack Roslovic. According to reports from Rick Dhaliwal and Cam Robinson, the organization has spoken to Roslovic on several occasions and are still interested in potentially signing him to a free agency deal. Roslovic posted 39 points in 81 games for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2024-25. He is reportedly seeking a two- or three-year deal worth just over $3 million annually. Roslovic could be a solid middle-six contributor for an NHL team, but there is some concern over whether he’s a needle mover. He could be a solution for Canucks, who need a true third-line center, but some wonder if he’s the best place to be using the little cap flexibility Vancouver has. A Roslovic signing would take up much of the $3.2 million available to add to the roster. Can the Canucks work the math out on Roslovic? At this stage of free agency, it’s about finding value in overlooked talent. Roslovic likely won’t be a dynamic top producer, but he has value. The question is if Vancouver can make the math work. He could provide reliable depth scoring, but is that where the money should go? Some believe the Canucks would be better served by taking a bigger swing. On his own, Roslovic likely doesn’t move the Canucks into contender status.
Phillies Reportedly 'Trying to Trade for' Polarizing Pirates' 16 Home Run Slugger
With a week until the MLB trade deadline, the Philadelphia Phillies are expected to be aggressive. With needs in the bullpen and the outfield, there are plenty of ways to address the roster at the deadline. While the outfield market isn't great, the Phillies are, according to Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan, a Pittsburgh sports talk radio show, one of many teams looking to acquire the polarizing Pittsburgh Pirates star, Oneil Cruz. "Source: The Phillies are one of the teams that's trying to trade for Pirates CF Oniel Cruz." Fillipponi writes, "Philly has gotten terrible play in CF this year. And they are interested in seeing what Cruz could do in a lineup with Harper, Schwarber, and Turner. Good veteran influences. Stay tuned." While the Phillies' interest in Cruz doesn't come as a surprise, the language of this report from Fillipponi is noteworthy. Not only are the Phillies interested, but they're trying to trade for Cruz at the deadline. He would take over in center field for Brandon Marsh, and Marsh could then slide over to left field, replacing Max Kepler who has had his struggles this season. Adding a player like Cruz, who is 26 years old and is under team control through 2028, would cost a lot. However, the Phillies are reportedly willing to go all in this trade deadline and could part with some of their top prospects. Though if the Pirates ask for top prospect Andrew Painter, the Phillies won't budge. Every other prospect is on the table, including Aidan Miller and Mick Abel. Cruz, who hit a 513-foot home run in the 2025 Home Run Derby, is a highly sought-after player on the trade market. Even though Cruz is batting just .219 on the year, he will still draw plenty of intrigue from around the league. Part of what makes him so appealing is his power and speed. He's hit 16 home runs this season, which would be second on the Phillies, and has an MLB-leading 33 stolen bases. Cruz will cost a fortune, but according to this report, the Phillies are looking to land the polarizing Pirates' star center fielder at the trade deadline.
Steelers' Will Howard Has Made Some Helpful Changes To Further His NFL Career Heading Into His First Training Camp
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been stuck in quarterback purgatory ever since Ben Roethlisberger retired following the 2021 season. The organization swung and missed on a first-round quarterback in Kenny Pickett, while also getting fairly average play from both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields at the position in 2024. Pittsburgh has moved on at quarterback and decided to sign four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers, but the organization also spent a selection in the 2025 NFL Draft on the quarterback position as it picked Will Howard out of Ohio State, fresh off a victory in the National Championship. The expectations for Howard are fairly low as he was a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but many thought he would be picked higher than that. Howard has above-average mobility, and his frame is similar to that of Josh Allen. On paper, he has all of the physical tools to be a high-quality quarterback in the NFL, but fans are probably going to have to wait to see him in meaningful action until at least the 2026 season. He spoke to the media in Latrobe on Thursday morning, where he mentioned his comfortability in the offense, and his body. "I feel like I've just gotten more comfortable in the system and throwing the ball," Howard said. "I've just continued over this offseason, trying to change my body, slim some weight down. I feel like I'm at a good weight right now, I feel really good with where I'm at. I feel like I'm throwing the ball really well. So I'm excited to just go out there and compete, I'm excited." Howard is going to be in the middle of a competition during training camp, only it won't be for a starting job. He will be competing with both Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson on the depth chart at quarterback, although it is more than likely that Howard will start the season as the third quarterback no matter what. Rudolph has experience in Pittsburgh, so the backup job is more than likely his, and Thompson will likely be cut. Howard will have to perform extremely well throughout training camp, and primarily in the preseason games, in order to land behind Rodgers on the depth chart. The rookie somehow landing the backup gig would be the best thing for the organization, as he would get more reps in practices throughout the year, which will only help in his development. It is a long shot Pittsburgh will be going into the 2026 season relying on Howard to be the team's starter, but he could open some eyes here in 2025 without really playing any meaningful football. Pittsburgh already knows what it has in Rudolph, as the quarterback spent significant time with the Steelers and has even started a playoff game for the organization. Thompson is an obvious roster cut barring any injuries; there is no excuse not to give Howard a ton of opportunities to show what he has while the team is in Latrobe, PA. Roethlisberger himself has even spoke highly of the rookie, and an opinion like that should hold some weight. Steelers Are A High-Risk Team In 2025 Pittsburgh has made a ton of changes throughout the 2025 offseason, and there has been some critical positions turned over. The ceiling for the team is high, but so is the floor. There is a chance this experiment does not work out, and Pittsburgh finally finishes a season below .500. If the team seems to be on that track late in the regular season, it has to become a possibility for Howard to get into games, or maybe even get a couple starts under his belt. That could be huge for the future of the organization, although it seems like a long shot to ever happen.
