Ederson officially signs new contract

Atalanta have officially confirmed that Ederson has signed a new contract with the club.

The Brazilian midfielder had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United earlier this summer.

However, Atalanta have now announced that the 27-year-old has extended his stay in Bergamo.

The club confirmed the news on their official website on Friday.

Ederson has made 180 appearances for Atalanta since joining in 2022, scoring 16 goals and providing six assists.

He also played a key role in their Europa League triumph in 2024.

The announcement comes just one week after Manchester United’s proposed move for Ederson dramatically collapsed despite advanced negotiations between the two clubs.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that United had informed Atalanta they would not be proceeding with the transfer.

Although reports initially suggested concerns over the Brazilian’s fitness had influenced the decision, Fabrizio Romano later stated that Manchester United had simply changed their transfer plans.

The collapse came as a surprise to Atalanta.

Speaking earlier this week, sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli admitted the Serie A club did not expect United to walk away from the agreement.

“We were stunned,” Giuntoli said when discussing the failed transfer.

He also confirmed that Atalanta had immediately started working on a new contract for Ederson.

That process has now been completed.

Manchester United went into the summer targeting three midfielders and that has not changed.

The Red Devils have already announced the arrivals of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.

Ederson’s contract extension also ends any immediate speculation surrounding his future after weeks of transfer rumours.

Unless another club returns with an unexpected offer, the Brazil international now looks set to remain a key part of Atalanta’s plans as they prepare for the 2026/27 season under Maurizio Sarri.
