How Everton Have Lined Up Recently
The starting lineup had a familiar look about it against Manchester United. The backline of Ben Godfrey, James Tarkwoski, Jarrad Branthewaite, and Vitaliy Mykolenko has started the previous seven Premier League matches. Behind them, Jordan Pickford has featured in all league games this season, amassing eight clean sheets.
The double pivot of Amadou Onana and James Garner anchored the centre midfield. In front of them was Malian international Abdoulaye Doucoure in an attacking midfielder / second striker role. Out-wide Dwight McNeil and James Harrison have been the first-choice options, the duo providing 13 goal contributions in the Premier League.
Portuguese striker Beto had a chance to become the club’s number-one striker. Starting two games ago against West Ham United, the former Udinese player scored and earned himself his second consecutive start against the Red Devils.
Everton Recent Form and Tactics
Winless in 2024, the Toffees have still managed to climb out of the relegation zone thanks to drawing five of their previous eight Premier League games. During this run of games, the team’s scoring woes have continued, as they are now ranked 18th for goals scored in the league.
They now face a Cherries side that has conceded 52 goals this campaign. Strikers Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin will look to change their fortunes against a bottom-five defence.
Everton will likely line up in a 4-2-3-1 that shifts to a 4-4-2 when Doucoure joins the striker in pressing and certain defensive situations. The wide players are crucial to the defensive prowess of the team tracking back and stopping any incoming crosses. Down the other end, they are just as important in generating dead-ball situations, where The Toffees have scored half their league goals.
Bournemouth ranks 18th in aerial duels won percentage, an area manager Sean Dyche may look to exploit. Pickford is used as an outlet for further up the pitch along with Tarkowski. These tactics have led to Everton attempting the league’s most long balls.
Everton Injuries to Consider
Idriss Gueye looks to return after the 21-day-long break after playing 70 minutes in a practice match. Arnaut Danjuma has rejoined first-team training after an ankle injury in January has seen him spend time on the sideline. Everton otherwise have a full squad except for Dele Alli, who has had surgery on his groin, though he has not featured in any first-team games this season.

Details emerge on Francisco Lindor's alleged incident with Mets teammate
Mr. Smile apparently wasn’t smiling too much about one of his teammates last season. New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor had a "heated confrontation" with teammate Jeff McNeil last June, Mike Puma of the New York Post reported on Friday. Puma writes that Lindor began verbally attacking McNeil on June 20 over a defensive lapse that McNeil had during that day’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The confrontation, which was only verbal and never got physical, came in the midst of a seven-game losing streak by the Mets at the time. Puma also reports that the flashy Lindor clashed personalities during the year with the business-like Juan Soto during the season as well. Interestingly enough, the five-time All-Star Lindor also had a confrontation with McNeil in the dugout during a game in the 2021 MLB season. That confrontation did turn physical, and Lindor later offered an extremely unconvincing excuse for the incident. Meanwhile, the incident last June underscored the Mets’ struggles to get on the same page with one another during the 2025 campaign. Despite having a mammoth $342 million payroll, the Mets completely collapsed in the final weeks of the season and missed the playoffs altogether. Now there are rumors that the Mets could make some big changes this offseason, including a potential trade of McNeil. After another apparent confrontation between the veteran utilityman and the four-time Silver Slugger Award winner Lindor, it is clear that something is not quite working right now in that clubhouse.

After missing out on Lane Kiffin, Florida has new top target in coaching search
The Florida Gators won't be hiring Lane Kiffin as their next head coach, but there's a new top candidate in Gainesville. According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall is now the leading candidate for the head coaching position. Sumrall has also reportedly withdrawn his name from consideration for the HC role at Auburn, leaving his options open between remaining at Tulane and moving to Florida. The Gators stand at 3-8 before Saturday's rivalry game against Florida State and have fired former head coach Billy Napier after a 3-4 start to his fourth season in the Swamp. Thamel reported on Friday that Florida had stopped considering Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin as a candidate, amid Kiffin's upcoming decision to either stay at Ole Miss or accept the head coaching job at LSU. Why Florida would be interested in Jon Sumrall According to Thamel, Sumrall is expected to decide by Sunday whether he will stay in New Orleans or move southeast to Gainesville. Sumrall, 43, is in his second year at Tulane, having taken over after Willie Fritz was named head coach at the University of Houston. Sumrall maintained the momentum of Tulane's football program established by Fritz, leading the Green Wave to the American Athletic Conference championship game a year ago. This season, No. 24 Tulane is 9-2 heading into Saturday's regular season finale against Charlotte. A win on Saturday night would secure a home game for the Green Wave in the AAC championship against North Texas. If Sumrall and Tulane win the AAC title, a College Football Playoff spot could be possible. With Sumrall's impressive record as a head coach — 41-11 between his tenures at Troy and Tulane — it's easy to see why the powers that be in Gainesville have identified him as the top target in Florida's coaching search now that Kiffin is out of the running.
Canucks trade rumours: Bruins have reportedly checked in on both Sherwood and Garland
Ever since the Vancouver Canucks sent a memo to the 31 other NHL teams this week, stating they’d be willing to listen to trade offers for their veteran players, the rumour mill has certainly heated up. Further, Jim Rutherford going on the record to specify that the Canucks would like to trade their pending UFAs sooner, rather than later, has only amplified those rumours. It’s also made Kiefer Sherwood the most-talked-about name among Canucks likely to be moved this season. Sherwood is in the final year of a two-year deal that carries a $1.5 million cap hit. If the Canucks were to retain on Sherwood’s contract, giving the acquiring team a $750,000 cap hit to work with, they should be able to maximize their return for Sherwood, who turns 31 in March. We wrote about this earlier this week. What we haven’t written all that much about is another way the Canucks could beef up the return they got on a Sherwood trade — attaching Conor Garland to him. While Garland’s name was brought up in trade rumours a week or so ago, opinions are mixed on whether the Canucks would consider such a move at this juncture. Garland signed a six-year extension with a more-than-workable annual average value of $6 million this past offseason, but doesn’t have any trade protection until that contract kicks in on July 1st, 2026. That means, in theory, that the Canucks could trade him, but they’d likely need to be blown away by an opposing team’s offer to part ways with Garland. Could that team be the Boston Bruins? According to a report from veteran Bruins reporter Jimmy Murphy, the Bs have checked in with the Canucks on both Kiefer Sherwood and Conor Garland. Here is some of what he wrote: RG has learned through an NHL source close to the situation that two players Sweeney has recently inquired about are Canucks wingers Kiefer Sherwood and Conor Garland. “They have 100 percent called on both players,” the source said of the Bruins’ interest in Sherwood and Garland. “They want scoring and believe that with some more, this team can definitely stay in the race and make some noise.” …As for Garland, this is not the first time that Sweeney has expressed NHL trade interest in the 29-year-old Scituate, MA native. As reported by Boston Hockey Now leading into the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline, the Bruins looked into acquiring Garland, who the Canucks chose to keep for three more seasons and recently signed to a six-year, $36 million ($6M AAV) contract back on July 1. According to the same source, though, as the Bruins were told by the Canucks three years ago, Garland, 29, is not one of the players that Vancouver is looking to trade at this time. If Boston really is kicking tires on both Sherwood and Garland, it would be interesting to see what the Canucks might want back in return. The Bruins’ top five prospects, according to Daily Faceoff: James Hagens (likely off limits), Fraser Minten, Fabian Lysell, Dans Locmelis, and Dean Letourneau.
