The winter signing has struggled to get going for Tottenham.

Tottenham were in dire need of a midfielder in the winter transfer window, and that is where Johan Lange whipped up a marquee move to bring Conor Gallagher to Hotspur Way in a marquee €40m transfer.

But that transfer, while it involved a lot of money, hasn’t paid much dividend at N17, with the Cobham academy graduate struggling to keep pace with the quality of performances needed at Tottenham.

And just months from his move to Hotspur Way, the Lilywhites are said to be open to selling him, and that openness has started to generate interest in his signature from Everton among contenders for his signing.

Everton want Conor Gallagher

Everton are said to be keeping close tabs on Conor Gallagher ahead of the summer window. The Merseysiders are said to be interested in pursuing a loan move for him which involves an obligation to buy in 2027 (h/t Football Insider).

The aforementioned report goes on to describe David Moyes as a “big admirer” of the England international as Everton start putting in place their shortlist for targets for the upcoming window.

And the timing of this makes sense from both the clubs, as Tottenham remain to sell Gallagher this summer regardless of whether they stay in the Premier League or not.

He has made 12 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this season, and he has done little to justify either the fee that Tottenham paid for him or the wages that he takes up every week.

Everton are said to be working with a limited budget in the upcoming window, which is why they would prefer a loan-to-buy structure for the transaction.

Moyes being involved adds a sense of certainity

What is something very important around this rumour is that Moyes is involved himself in the process of signing Gallagher. Given that if the man on the touchline sees merit in a player, he will surely find a way to use him in a positive manner. And Everton’s midfield requires a lot of things that Gallagher has in his arsenal, especially when he is playing in a playing style that suits him.

A loan-to-buy option will also help them test the waters with Tottenham. It should surely be enough for them to force a conversation with the Lilywhites’ stakeholders.
