Former Inter Milan forward Aldo Serena has criticised the Nerazzurri’s summer transfer window and says Juventus hold the edge in the Scudetto race, ahead of Saturday’s Derby d’Italia clash between the two sides.

Speaking in an interview with La Stampa, with quotes via FcInterNews.it, Serena said “Juventus should be ahead in the predictions after their two victories against Parma and Genoa.”

The Bianconeri won their opening games of the season, 2-0 against Parma and a hard-fought 1-0 win over Genoa.

Serena argued that these results were “achieved with an old Juventus philosophy, a sense of a return to the past.”

He added that “I saw a compact, somewhat rugged team that quickly looks to push forward to the opponent’s goal.”

After discussing Juventus, Serena then spoke about his former club.

He described the Nerazzurri’s 5-0 scoreline against Torino as “a bit misleading”.

Serena then clarified that “Torino did not take advantage” of the large gaps left by Inter.

He added “Chivu is asking for higher pressing and therefore it is possible that some space will open up behind the first lines.”

He was critical of his former club’s transfer window, arguing that “perhaps a few signings were missing.”

Serena mentioned the likes of Giovanni Leoni, Ademola Lookman and Manu Kone by name as ideal signings.

However, he acknowledges “no one arrived. A broader renewal would have made sense.”
