Stefan de Vrij has won praise for his rock solid performance in yesterday’s Serie A clash between Como and Inter Milan.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, hail the Dutchman as the Nerazzurri’s outstanding performer.

Stefan de Vrij started for Inter Milan against Como yesterday.

In the absence of players like Lautaro Martinez and Nicolo Barella in the starting eleven, the 33-year-old wore the captain’s armband on the night.

And it was a real captain’s performance by de Vrij.

De Vrij had the tough task of marking in-form Como striker Anastasios Douvikas.

However, the former Lazio defender hardly put a foot wrong. He never looked under pressure, and marshalled his penalty area well.

Inter were good value for their clean sheet in their final Serie A match of the season. Meanwhile, de Vrij was right at the heart of it.

Meanwhile, at the other end, de Vrij scored Inter’s opening goal.

Therefore, set pieces have proven to be a devastating weapon for Inter all season long.

Moreover, de Vrij showed just why that’s the case. He used his physicality and experience to score an excellent diving header from a Federico Dimarco corner.
