Exclusive reveals three reasons that Trevoh Chalobah could stay at Chelsea after all
Jaylynn Nash-USA TODAY Sports

Ben Jacobs’ weekly column on Caughtoffside is out today, and it has some interesting information on Trevoh Chalobah’s situation at Chelsea.

It’s been pretty much a full year now where the defender has been in the shop window, but for various reasons a move hasn’t happened. We were certain this January would see him leave, now he’s fit again, but Jacobs has cast serious doubt on that.

There are three main reasons for this. The first is simple – it’s the 23rd of January and there’s been no progress made. Things could yet happen, but they’re going to have to move relatively quickly.

The second is that the interested parties don’t look too likely to pay what Chelsea want:

“Chalobah has some interest in England and Italy but nothing is close as of now, although with so little time in the window let’s see if that changes. Milan are still considering a move but feel Chelsea’s financial conditions are too high. There is still nothing advanced with Fulham as of Tuesday morning.”

The third is that Chalobah himself isn’t ready to be forced out, and will only take a move that suits him. He’s not been used by the club at all for a year, so they have no real leverage to force him to make a move he doesn’t want to:

“Chelsea may want Chalobah sold, but the player himself is content to sit tight and resolve things in the summer if needs be. He will only exit for the right move, and preferably wants a club with European football or a likelihood of it next season.”

So the player we were all sure would be the first out the door this month, may end up sticking around until the summer after all…
