Gavin Beith officially joins Manchester United

Gavin Beith has officially joined Manchester United just one day after the summer transfer window closed.

United came out of deadline day having failed to add the left-back many supporters had been demanding, despite spending much of the summer looking at possible solutions.

Lewis Hall, Alejandro Balde and Myles Lewis-Skelly were among the names linked with Old Trafford.

Meanwhile Fabrizio Romano had even claimed he could “guarantee” United were still working on a left-back deal late in the window.

That never materialised.

Michael Carrick instead saw his midfield transformed through the arrivals of Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba, with Karl Darlow also added as experienced goalkeeping cover.

With the window now shut, another new arrival has nevertheless walked through the doors at Carrington.

However, Beith has not joined Carrick’s playing squad.

Manchester United have officially confirmed that he has been appointed assistant coach of the women’s team, working alongside new head coach Eva Olid.

The move reunites Beith with Olid after the pair previously worked together at Heart of Midlothian Women.

That partnership was a successful one, with Hearts winning their first Scottish Premier League title while Beith was part of Olid’s backroom staff.

Beith also brings experience from several different roles rather than arriving as a newcomer to coaching.

After spending more than a decade playing in Scotland, he became Dundee United’s first head coach in 2015 and later took joint charge of Aberdeen in the top flight.

He has also worked with Dallas Trinity and held various positions within the Scottish FA.

Beith replaces Carl Green, who has departed after serving as an assistant since 2021 and being part of the staff that helped United Women win their first major trophy, the 2024 FA Cup.

His first major task will be helping Olid prepare United for their Women’s Super League opener away to London City Lionesses.
