Glazers head to England for Manchester United meeting

There’s been a longstanding frustration from Manchester United fans about the Glazer ownership, and it has never really gone away.

The sense, for many, is that the club has carried the weight of a leveraged buyout for two decades, with little personal funding from the family towards modernising infrastructure.

Unfortunately for the club and its supporters, that tension is again part of the backdrop as key figures in the ownership group prepare to sit down in person.

That wider anger has also shaped how supporters have viewed the controversial changes under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, with his investment presented as a shift in approach at the top end of the club.

With mass redundancies, ticket price hikes and intense scrutiny over any spending, INEOS’ involvement in the club has left no prisoners.

Now, both sets of owners are set for their monthly executive board meeting, however The Athletic has reported that the summit has been moved to Carrington rather than Monaco.

The main reasoning for this appears to be to avoid disruption for United’s football leadership during a turbulent period.

Crucially, the report explains Joel and Avram Glazer are set to fly to Manchester to meet with Ratcliffe for the club’s latest executive committee meeting, with face-to-face talks set for Carrington.

It is understood this meeting will cover the latest developments following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal and the appointment of Michael Carrick as interim head coach.

There’s also a practical angle to it as this will be The Glazers first visit to the new main building at Carrington, a project built at a cost of £50million and funded by Ratcliffe’s investment.

The timing matters because of Carrick’s return to Old Trafford to steady the ship.

In their time of need, United have turned to the former midfielder until the end of the season, with Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans and Travis Binnion part of the staff around him.

Off the pitch, it’s understood that the club’s commercial situation is also due to be discussed, including outstanding sponsorship decisions around the training ground kit partner and a replacement for the shirt sleeve sponsor.

For supporters, it all lands in the same place, the meeting comes just after Amorim was sacked on 5th January, and with scrutiny rising fast around the direction of the club.

United’s identity has always demanded clarity and standards, and the next milestone is whether this Carrington summit delivers decisive action, not just another talking point.
