Hansi Flick makes decision on Marcus Rashford

This time a year ago, Marcus Rashford’s stock was at an all-time low.

After bursting onto the scene under Louis van Gaal in the 2015/16 season, Rashford went on to become a Manchester United regular.

Rashford’s form dipped for United towards the end of Erik ten Hag’s reign as manager and Ruben Amorim saw him as surplus to requirements.

He was banished from the first-team and eventually loaned out to Aston Villa.

Rashford returned to United in the summer but a new loan move beckoned as FC Barcelona beckoned.

Becoming the first Englishman to play for the club since Gary Lineker, he was joining one of the best teams in Europe, one who came agonisingly close to a spot in the Champions League final last season.

He has since thrived in Spain, with 7 goals and 11 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Sport have reported that manager Hansi Flick is prioritising the signing of Rashford beyond his current one-year loan spell.

Money will be a factor but Flick is said to be very pleased with Rashford’s output at the club, versatility in attack and professionalism off the pitch.

Rashford reportedly turned down more lucrative offers to join Barcelona and appears to be reaping the rewards of his decision.

With an option to buy Rashford of just under £26 million, the price tag will be a stumbling block for Barcelona, as will be his salary.

The Englishman is reportedly open to discussing his wages to help the club with their salary limitations imposed by the modern day La Liga rules that saw the club forced into selling Lionel Messi.

With United signing over £200 million worth of attacking talent this summer and Rashford’s performances at Barcelona, it is hard to see a way back for the forward at Old Trafford.
