Harry Kane could win first major trophy in his own classic style

For years, Harry Kane’s career has been defined by goals, records and a conspicuous absence of silverware. That narrative is finally set to change, but in a way only Kane could script.

Bayern Munich is on the verge of reclaiming the Bundesliga title, yet its star striker will be watching from the sidelines.

Following a 3–0 victory over Mainz on Saturday, Bayern sits eight points clear at the top of the table on 75 points with three matches remaining. A win against RB Leipzig on May 3 would mathematically secure the title. However, Kane will be unavailable after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season, triggering a one-game suspension.

It’s a cruel twist for a player who has long been mocked for his empty trophy cabinet despite an extraordinary goal-scoring resume. Since arriving in Munich in August 2023, Kane has been prolific, scoring 80 goals in 89 appearances across all competitions — 36 of them this season alone.

His impact has been transformative. After a turbulent 2023–24 campaign that saw Bayern finish third behind champions Bayer Leverkusen and runners-up VfB Stuttgart, Kane’s second season has brought renewed stability and cutting-edge efficiency to the Bavarian attack under the leadership of Vincent Kompany.

Yet, in fitting fashion, the Englishman will be absent for the moment he has spent his entire career chasing. His likely absence from the title-clincher serves as a metaphor for his journey: record-breaking and iconic, yet strangely detached from the act of finally lifting club silverware.

Despite the frustration, Kane appears committed to Bayern for the foreseeable future. A clause in his contract reportedly allows for a discounted return to the Premier League before his deal expires in 2027, but for now, he seems to be focused on achieving more success in Munich.

Should Bayern seal the title this weekend, the long-running criticism that Kane "can't win" will finally be laid to rest. That he won’t be on the pitch to celebrate is strangely poetic — and perhaps the most Harry Kane way to win a first major trophy.
