Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to sign a new goalkeeper in the upcoming winter transfer window, and the North Londoners have reportedly identified Man City academy graduate James Trafford as a potential target.
The Lilywhites have a need to bring in a new player in the goalkeeping department given that the club has lost the starting keeper, Guglielmo Vicario, with an ankle injury. And while 36-year-old Fraser Foster has been putting in decent displays in the Italian’s absence, the North Londoners have a need to sign a new keeper who can not only be a potential backup to the former Empoli man but also a competition to take up his place in between the sticks.
In James Trafford, Spurs are looking at a player who has the potential to become one of the best keepers in the English top tier. He is not only good with his reflexes but also top-notch with the ball at his feet, and his modern traits make him a perfect fit for Ange Postecoglou’s brand of football.
Trafford has enjoyed a good start to the ongoing 2024/25 season under Scott Parker, conceding just nine (9) goals in 21 games while keeping 12 clean sheets in the process. And after the Clarets 2-1 win over Watford last weekend, former Fulham manager in charge of Burnley expressed how the 22-year-old will benefit from staying put at Turf Moor amid interest from Tottenham.
Scott Parker, speaking to Burnley Express, said:
While Trafford remains the first choice, the Lilywhites are also looking at Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson and Sheffield Wednesday man Pierce Charles as alternatives to the 22-year-old.
