The Lewis family appear determined to steer Tottenham toward sustained footballing success. The recent sacking of Daniel Levy marked a major turning point in the club’s modern history, signalling a decisive shift in how the Lilywhites intend to operate moving forward. The newly formed hierarchy at N17 seems more focused than ever on achieving results on the pitch.
This change of direction will no doubt be music to the ears of Spurs supporters, many of whom had long protested against Levy’s leadership. For the former executive chairman, on-field success was often secondary to his ambitions of transforming Tottenham into a global commercial powerhouse. To his credit, Levy largely achieved that goal during his 24-year tenure at the club, firmly establishing Spurs as one of the most financially robust teams in Europe.
Now, however, Joe Lewis is intent on prioritising footballing success under manager Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician has been tasked with building on last season’s Europa League triumph and ensuring Spurs remain competitive across all four fronts this season. To aid that ambition, ENIC have reportedly sanctioned an additional £100 million capital injection to be used for player transfers and wages.
Tottenham were recently at the centre of a potential takeover battle after a 12-man consortium led by tech entrepreneur Brooklyn Earick tabled a £3.3 billion bid to acquire the club. The group also pledged to invest a further £1.2 billion towards player recruitment and wages if they succeeded in replacing ENIC at the helm. However, the Lewis family swiftly rejected the offer, prompting Earick to withdraw his bid.
Despite ENIC’s stance that Spurs are not for sale, Kieran Maguire still expects the Lewis family to entertain an offer if the right bid comes along. Speaking on talkSPORT (via Tottenham News), Maguire said,
“I think if the numbers are right, then the Lewis family will be willing to listen. Spurs are very attractive, they’ve got the most future-proof stadium in the country and the best training facilities in the country.”
The finance expert added,
“They’ve got a deal with the local council now to allow 30 non-football events at full capacity, that’s NFL, boxing, Taylor Swift, Coldplay. It’s really smart. Spurs make more money per fan per match than any other club; it works out at £101 per fan, per match. They are the most profitable club in the history of the Premier League.”
Kieran Maguire believes the Lewis family would listen to offers if a potential suitor matches the asking price. The finance expert notes that the Lilywhites have the best stadium and training facility in the country, making them an enticing project to invest in. Also, the club’s healthy finances due to regular concerts and NFL games also makes them the most profitable team in the Premier League.
Daniel Levy deserves huge plaudits for turning Tottenham into a commercial giant during his 24-year stint at N17. The Lilywhites have an endless revenue stream, a state-of-the-art stadium, and a world-class training centre. They have gone toe-to-toe with some of the biggest clubs in Europe and have surpassed them when it comes to making profits every year.
But the next step for the club should be to focus on competing for silverware regularly. Spurs have all the tools to become a leading force in the Premier League, and the Europa League success also gives them a solid platform to build on. So, fans will hope that the Lilywhites push on to realise their potential, whether that comes under ENIC or someone else.
