The Tottenham talent has enjoyed a strong loan spell at SV Hamburger.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Vuskovic has been struggling at SV Hamburger with an injury lately.

Spurs bosses will certainly be pleased with the displays of Luka Vuskovic on loan at SV Hamburger this season. The teenager has grown in stature as a player out on loan, as he showed both grit and determination to lead Hamburg’s defence and become a key figure in the side.

The Croatian international’s performances, in which he has registered six goal contributions in 25 Bundesliga appearances, have prompted the German club to extend his loan spell, but Spurs are set to have the final say on the next steps for their young talent. However, just when Luka Vuskovic was performing at his best, he got injured.

Injury halts Luka Vuskovic’s brilliant loan spell

It was initially believed that Vuskovic had picked up just a knock following the March international break. He has been out since April 7, and the setback occurred in Hamburg’s training that week.

Last week, Hamburg boss Merlin Polzin said Vuskovic underwent intensive treatment for a knee injury. The lanky centre-back missed Hamburg’s recent defeats to VfB Stuttgart and Werder Bremen due to a knee injury, and it appears that he may not be back anytime soon.

According to a report from German outlet Bild, Vuskovic’s injury is more serious than first presumed. The young defender’s joint is ‘severely damaged than previously thought’, and subsequently, he’s likely to miss the clash against TSG Hoffenheim on April 25th.

Vuskovic hasn’t been training with the rest of the group since April 7. He travelled with the squad but didn’t feature in the 3-1 derby defeat to Werder Bremen. The big Croat’s absence has been a blow for Polzin’s side, who have conceded seven goals in the last two games. This shows how crucial Vuskovic (Tottenham’s second-most valuable player), who continues to be linked with several top European clubs, has been for Hamburg since the start of the campaign.

As the 19-year-old has not been able to do any individual rehabilitation work on the grass in the last couple of weeks, he is doubtful to make his comeback against Hoffenheim this weekend. With just five points separating Hamburg and the relegation play-off spot, Polzin and Co. will be desperate to have Vuskovic back as quickly as possible. Hopefully, he is not rushed back to action if things continue to take a turn from bad to worse in the next couple of games.

Tottenham’s medical staff would be keeping a close watch on Vuskovic’s injury condition and recovery.
