Reports in Italy claim that Inter have four alternative options in mind, including Como’s Cesc Fabregas, in the event that Simone Inzaghi decides to leave the club this summer.

Inzaghi and representatives from Inter are expected to sit down and talk about their respective futures at the beginning of this week following the 5-0 hammering by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final and reports of interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and one unnamed Premier League club

Recent reports claim that Al-Hilal are prepared to offer Inzaghi an enormous €30m-per-season contract to lure him away from Serie A.

Who could take over at Inter if Inzaghi leaves?

According to reports from various outlets, including La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fabregas remains Inter’s first-choice option to replace Inzaghi if the coach decides to step away in the immediate future.

The Spaniard already has a great track record of working with and developing young players, including Nico Paz, Assane Diao and Alex Valle, and impressed with a string of victories over Napoli, Atalanta and Roma this term, plus a run of six straight wins towards the end of the season.

Fabregas has also been linked with moves to take over at Roma and Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

Aside from Fabregas, Inter could also potentially turn to Genoa’s Patrick Vieira, Roberto De Zerbi of Olympique de Marseille or former Nerazzurri defender Cristian Chivu, currently employed by Parma.

Vieira and De Zerbi have both been linked with a number of Serie A jobs in recent weeks, including to Roma for the Frenchman and to Milan for the Italian.

Chivu, meanwhile, is vastly experienced in Nerazzurri circles, having spent the last six seasons of his playing career in San Siro, before progressing through the club’s youth ranks from the U14s to the U19s as a coach.

The Romanian is still relatively new to management in Serie A. He is still in his first job at senior level, having replaced Fabio Pecchia as head coach of Parma in February

He helped guide the Crociati to safety, surviving by five points. He remains under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season.
