After the MLS Cup Championship, Inter Miami has slowly started making changes within the squad. The Herons will be without some key players who led the team to glory this year, and are expected to bring in new players.
Inter Miami already announced the signing of Sergio Reguilon, who is set to be the replacement for Jordi Alba. The club also announced that Rodrigo De Paul is a permanent signing for the MLS Champions and will occupy the second Designated Player in the roster.
One player whose future is still uncertain is Luis Suarez, who had a contract with Inter Miami until the end of 2025.
Suarez is rumored to leave the club and not be part of the roster for the 2026 MLS Season. The club is linked with bringing in a new star striker, but it does not stop the plans of Inter Miami potentially keeping Suarez for another year.
After rumors suggesting the Uruguayan striker could leave the club, Lusi Suarez is now closer than ever to playing another season with Inter Miami.
Michelle Kaufman of the Miami Herald reports that Luis Suarez is finalizing a contract to return to Inter Miami for a final season in 2026.
Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas expressed to have Suarez for 2026, despite no official statement in regards to a contract extension. Mas said that Suarez will have to decide to proceed forward.
After the MLS Cup final a few weeks ago, Mas said, "If Luis decides to play another year, I would love to see Luis continue. Obviously, then the conversations would be as to how Luis Suarez returns (within the salary budget).”
