Inter Milan star defender Carlos Augusto believes Cristian Chivu has what it takes to inspire the Nerazzurri to a ‘great season.’
Speaking to Sportitalia via FCInterNews, the Brazilian ace hailed Chivu’s managerial qualities after last night’s win against Monza.
After a disappointing 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign, Inter have hit the ground running in pre-season.
Indeed, they have won both summer friendlies under the new boss, Cristian Chivu.
Following a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Monaco, they beat Monza on penalties last night.
Despite conceding the opening goal midway through the first half, Chivu’s charges completed a quick turnaround.
Samuele Birindelli’s sloppy own goal on the stroke of halftime initiated Inter’s comeback.
Then Francesco Pio Esposito scored a delightful backheel to put Inter 2-1 up at the start of the second half.
However, Paulo Azzi’s late equalizer took the game to penalties, where the San Siro club prevailed.
Carlos Augusto was part of the starting line-up at Stadio Brianteo.
With Federico Dimarco occupying his preferred wingback position, the Brazilian had a more conservative role.
Indeed, he faced his former club as a center-back and fared reasonably well.
“These matches are important to be ready for the first league game,” Augusto said after the match. “It was a great performance.
“We had a strong approach, looking for the aggressiveness and verticality that the coach asks for.
“Our legs aren’t at 100% yet, but we’ll be ready for the first official match.”
Then, he spoke about his favorite position.
“I like the two positions I play, it’s good for me. I used to tell Inzaghi, and I tell Chivu the same now.
“He’s young, understands the group and the players. He’s showing quality and ability, and knows how to manage the dressing room.
“We’re going to have a great season.”
Finally, he outlined Inter’s ambitions for 2025/26.
“We are Inter, we have to fight on all fronts. Last season didn’t end well, and we’ll do everything to win.”
