Jeff Bezos conquered online retail, built one of the world’s largest fortunes and explored opportunities to enter American professional sports. His next possible investment could take him to Anfield.
The Amazon founder has reportedly entered discussions about joining a consortium seeking roughly 30% of Liverpool FC, Yahoo reports. British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia leads the group, which submitted a provisional £1.35 billion offer, worth nearly $1.8 billion, to Fenway Sports Group.
That proposal places Liverpool’s overall value near £4.5 billion, or approximately $6 billion.
Bhatia spent 18 years as a co-owner of Queens Park Rangers and has approached additional investors to strengthen the consortium’s financial position. Bezos, reportedly worth $267 billion, could receive equity in Liverpool if he joins the group and it completes the transaction.
Jeff Bezos has held talks about joining the consortium seeking to buy around a 30% stake in Liverpool, according to the Guardian.

Bezos has considered purchasing the Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks, but neither possibility produced a formal offer. Liverpool represents his first reported pursuit of ownership in European soccer.
The potential move also reflects a wider American investment surge across the sport. Fenway Sports Group bought Liverpool in 2010, while U.S. businessmen have since gained control of clubs including Chelsea and Arsenal. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney also expanded Wrexham’s worldwide profile after purchasing the Welsh club in 2020.
An FSG representative confirmed that Bhatia’s consortium communicated interest in acquiring a minority position. However, the talks have not resulted in a completed agreement, and Bezos has not publicly committed to participating.
For Liverpool supporters, that distinction matters. Bezos could bring enormous financial power and global attention, but the story remains about possibility, not ownership. Still, attaching one of the planet’s wealthiest people to a $1.8 billion proposal ensures those conversations will command attention.
