Jorge Mendes working on Rafael Leao move

Rafael Leao has been linked with a move to Manchester United throughout the summer transfer window.

The Portuguese international, who featured for his country at the recent World Cup finals, is actively considering his future after deciding to leave his current club, AC Milan.

United have emerged as one of many options that Leao could choose to join although key barriers are still present and need to be overcome if a deal is to be completed.

AC Milan’s asking price has remained the main barrier with clubs interested, including Manchester United, unwilling to meet the Italian club’s demands.

Further events on the field, such as Leao being sent off for punching an opponent, may have further hindered a possible deal with negative publicity surrounding the moment.

Italian outlet Calcio Mercato have now provided an update on the situation, stating that Leao’s agent Jorge Mendes is working with Fenerbahce to try and secure a deal ahead of the new season beginning.

Mercato have also revealed that Fenerbahce are serious about a deal for Rafael Leao and have offered more money than rivals Galatasaray for the winger.

Financial Fair Play rules remain a key consideration for the Turkish side after their signing of Mason Greenwood from Marseille earlier in the transfer window. Leao’s choice and approval is also pivotal.

Speaking about his future, Leao stated: “I’ve already spoken to the club about the possibility of trying a new experience. I don’t know if it will happen.

I have to show up there (with AC Milan) on the 29th, and while I’m there, I’ll give my all, always respecting the shirt that has given me everything.

I think it’s a club that has helped me a lot in every way, but in life you have ambitions for other things too, and if that happens, I’ll study the options, but I’m still a AC Milan player.”
