Lewis Hall rejects move

Lewis Hall has become a much-wanted man this summer transfer window, with the Premier League’s elite looking to the left-back.

Manchester United have struggled with the left-back role for several years now since the long-term injuries of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia saw right-back Diogo Dalot move to cover the role.

Since then, United signed Patrick Dorgu as a successor for Shaw as first-choice left-back; however, having played as a right-winger at Lecce, the Denmark international has shown his strength playing further up the flanks.

As such, the Red Devils are still on the hunt for a new star to come in and make the role their own, with Harry Amass and Diego Leon as potential back-ups from the academy.

That’s where Lewis Hall comes in, as United have held talks with the defender and his agents about a potential move this summer.

However, they aren’t on their own as Manchester Evening News have reported that Chelsea have also been in touch with the 21-year-old’s team.

Lewis Hall rejects return to former club

It’s understood that Lewis Hall rejected the advance from Chelsea, turning down the opportunity to return to Stamford Bridge, having come through the Chelsea academy.

Hall is thought to be unsettled at Newcastle, so his rejection of Chelsea hands a massive boost to Manchester United, who are still hopeful of luring him to Old Trafford.

However, should they do so, Chelsea are still set to benefit thanks to a sell-on clause built into the deal when he move to St James’ Park.

While the sell-on clause is not confirmed, he moved to Newcastle for £28 million plus £7 million in add-ons, and is now valued at £60 million, with sell-on clauses routinely built around the profit, in this case £25 million.
