The 2025 Leagues Cup Final has brought lots of controversy and speculation involving many players from Inter Miami. The brawl after the match and the Luis Suarez spitting incident were some of the unfortunate hot topics of the final.

One of the moments during the game that many noticed was Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul confronting Seattle Sounders player Pedro de la Vega.

Messi and De Paul were confronting the Argentine Seattle Sounders player, and Messi continued to discuss with the player after De Paul backed away.

Former MLS player Alan Gordon, on the Major League Journeymen Podcast, stated that Messi threatened Pedro de la Vega not to play with the Argentina national team during the confrontation between the two.

Gordon says that Messi told Pedro de la Vega that he will not join the Argentine national team while he plays there.

Alan Gordon: "Messi told him to his face, 'You'll never play for the [Argentina] national team as long as I am involved.' This happened. That is disgusting to me. Their acting in a way that is disgusting."

Did Messi Really Threaten Pedro de la Vega?

According to new reports from Rave Green TV, Messi did not threaten Pedro de la Vega with not playing for the Argentina national team as long as he is involved. This rumor has been debunked, and it is reportedly not true.

Pedro de la Vega was asked about the encounter with Messi and De Paul after winning the Leagues Cup with Seattle Sounders. The Argentine player did not reveal the conversation he had with Messi or De Paul.

Pedro de la Vega showed respect for both players after the match and considers them one of the greatest Argentine players. He claims the 'heated' moment with Messi was just a part of the match.

Pedro de la Vega: "For me, they are among the best we [Argentina] have. They are World Champions. Two idols of mine. It was just issues in the game. I tried to focus on the game and to think too much of that because obviously playing against those players, being Argentinian, adds more pressure because it's normal."
