Lionel Messi Facing Unexpected Problem After $12 Million Purchase: Report

After historic runs with Barcelona and Argentina, Lionel Messi is enjoying a sweet moment in his career playing with Inter Miami.

This season, the team owned by David Beckham is already qualified for the Major League Soccer playoffs, and the Argentine star has been mainly responsible.

Just during the 2025 campaign, Messi, 38, already has 26 goals and 15 assists in the MLS. And after being eliminated from the Leagues Cup and the Concacaf Champions Cup, the Herons are determined to go for the club's first league title.

However, not everything is honey on flakes for the Barcelona legend, as he is reportedly facing a personal problem off the pitch.

Lionel Messi's Mansion Faces Partial or Total Demolition

According to information from ABC, Messi's mansion, located in Ibiza, could be demolished for several urban and administrative violations.

The property, which the soccer star purchased for north of $12 million USD in 2022, is built on protected land and does not have the necessary permits, the outlet reported.

"It lacks a completion permit or a certificate of occupancy, and several extensions—such as rooms added to the garage or earthworks—were carried out without the necessary permits," ABC's Antonio Albert wrote. "The City Council has opened proceedings for serious violations, and partial demolition is not ruled out if the situation is not regularized."

Being in Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, environmental protection is especially rigorous.

The situation has caused Rafael Triguero Costa, the mayor of Ibiza, to issue a decree that prevents further construction work and has opened a file for "illegal changes." This sanctioning route could end in a total or partial demolition order, in case what was built is not "legalized."

The report states that to resolve the situation, Messi's legal team must obtain and validate the appropriate permits for protected land, in addition to regularizing the occupancy certificate by certifying safety, health, and technical compliance.

As it stands, the most likely outcome is that a partial demolition of the mansion will be carried out to achieve urban conformity. But nothing will change until the decree that prevents construction work is lifted, which will happen if the city council accepts a project for legalization and correction.
