Liverpool had a brilliant start to the summer transfer window, securing deals for Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz in quick succession, showing the kind of urgency that has been missing in recent seasons. The Reds also further established their reputation as an excellent selling club, transferring Jarrel Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen with a buy-back clause.
Everything seemed to be a bed of roses for Arne Slot, with the team looking much more stronger despite the loss of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid. Unfortunately, though, tragedy struck in the form of the unfortunate demise of Diogo Jota. While the gifted footballer will continue to live in our memories for a long time and forever be the #20 at Anfield, the squad will know that they have to rally around each other and shift the focus to the football as the 2025/26 season nears.
One criminally underrated aspect of Jota’s game was his versatility and his ability to play anywhere across the front line and even in attacking midfield on occasion. Liverpool now need to find someone of a similar profile who can provide depth in Arne Slot’s team.

Now, as per Defensa Central (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are interested in Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo and are planning a player-plus-cash deal that involves Ibrahima Konate in a bid to convince the Spanish club. Los Blancos are interested in signing the French defender who is in the final 12 months of his Anfield contract.
As per the report, Liverpool are willing to offer Konate plus €35m in cash to convince Real Madrid. Xabi Alonso & co. are expected to be intrigued by this proposal but might demand a bigger chunk of money along with the Frenchman. Rodrygo seems to have fallen out of favour under the new Spanish tactician and this could be a win-win for both clubs.
Labelled “the most gifted player in the squad” by Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo’s talents need no introduction. His technical mastery and versatility make him an indispensable asset to most teams around the world. Much like Jota, he is capable of playing anywhere across the front line, although he loves playing from the left.
A hard-working attacker, Rodrygo would suit Arne Slot’s tactical setup and will be willing to press and track back to help out the team. He could benefit from having someone like Milos Kerkez or Andy Robertson overlapping him on the left as it would allow him to cut inside and be closer to the goal.
For much of the 24-year-old’s time in Spain, he has been in the shadow of Vinicus Jr. and later Kylian Mbappe and if given the right circumstances to thrive, the Brazilian could become a superstar in his own right. It would have been a cruel blow to him that Alonso used him so sparingly during the recently concluded Club World Cup and an exit this summer might be the perfect solution for him.
With Luis Diaz’s future at Liverpool far from certain and the player said to be negotiating an exit, that leaves Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa as the two options to play on the left wing for Arne Slot. Thus, signing Rodrygo could prove to be transformative for the Dutchman. Let’s wait and see how this transfer saga plays out.
