Liverpool test Premier League rivals to sign mega-star at £120 million

Liverpool have approached Newcastle United to sign their star striker, Alexander Isak, to bolster their attack during the summer window. Isak played a pivotal role for Newcastle, helping them reach the Champions League by finishing fifth in the Premier League.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old played a key role in the Magpies’ victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final last season. Isak has established himself as one of the best number nines in Europe, famed for his all-around ability up front.

The Sweden international has incredible finishing ability and composure, combined with creativity, passing and hold-up play to influence the game. Isak has performed consistently since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2019, barring his struggles with injuries.

According to David Ornstein (via The Athletic), Liverpool have recently approached Newcastle to sign Isak to bolster their attacking department. Liverpool have already strengthened key areas of their team by signing Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong this summer.

However, they need a genuine goalscoring threat up front, apart from their regular goal-poaching legend and right-winger, Mohamed Salah. According to Ornstein, Liverpool have communicated their interest to do a deal in the region of £120 million for Isak.

Liverpool have a strong senior team squad under Arne Slot that won the Premier League last season. The Dutchman did not spend a lot last summer, only signing Federico Chiesa in his first season at Liverpool.

Now, Slot understands the kind of players he needs to upgrade Liverpool and take them to another level. Despite the quality of the team, the Reds failed to perform well in the cup competitions due to some vulnerabilities.

Their overreliance on Salah as the goal scorer is one of those vulnerabilities, which the opposition exposed by man-marking him. A potential signing of Isak is more than a massive upgrade to their squad, as it will have a psychological impact on the Premier League rivals.
