Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami were held to a 2-2 draw by Red Bull New York on Saturday night in a game full of late drama.

Luis Suarez did not start the match, instead coming off the bench in the 79th minute to replace Ian Fray as Miami pushed for a winner.

While the result kept Miami competitive, one of the post-match talking points was one moment involving Suarez that quickly drew attention across social media.

Suarez was handed a golden opportunity late on after receiving a perfectly weighted right-footed pass from Messi inside the box.

With only Ethan Horvath to beat, the Uruguayan failed to convert from close range, squandering what looked like a certain goal despite the move later being ruled out for offside.

The offside call did little to stop fans reacting, with criticism quickly emerging online following the miss.

“Suarez better retire. I really don’t know why he is still kicking a football,” wrote an X user.

Another football fan added: “Suarez is literally finished.”

“And he missed it, just like old times,” echoed a Barcelona fan, remembering the Uruguayans past times at the club.

Lionel Messi creates chances but fails to deliver decisive contribution

Messi was unable to register a goal or assist despite influencing the game throughout.

According to SofaScore, he created three big chances and recorded 1.18 expected assists, alongside four key passes during the match. However, none of these stats resulted in a goal.

The Argentine also missed a big chance himself, summing up a frustrating night in front of goal for Inter Miami.
