Manchester United abandon Alex Scott pursuit

Alex Scott has been linked with a move to Manchester United during this summer’s transfer window with him named as a possible option that the club could use to strengthen its midfield.

Scott, 22, played 37 Premier League games last season for Bournemouth last season, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

United have faced tough competition in their pursuit of Scott with Chelsea making an offer for the midfielder whilst Arsenal have previously made an enquiry.

Bournemouth also appear reluctant to let the midfielder go this summer as he nears in on his fourth season at the club.

The Mirror have now reported that United have decided to abandon their pursuit of Alex Scott due to the Cherries’ high asking price. United are also not prepared to involve themselves in a bidding war, according to the publication.

Manchester United have instead decided to look towards alternative options.

The Red Devils have signed midfielders Andrey Santos, from Chelsea, and Youri Tielemans, from Aston Villa, during this summer’s transfer window so far.

Michael Carrick’s side have already played two pre-season games with Santos featuring whilst Tielemans has spent time recovering from his World Cup campaign with Belgium.

Manu Kone has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks as a potential third midfield signing, on the other hand.

Roma have awaited United’s move in the deal with the Italian side wanting the deal to be completed before the end of business next Friday.

United finished third last season and will play Champions League football in the upcoming campaign alongside their usual domestic competitions.

The transfer window closes on September 1st for sides across the Premier League, providing the club with plenty of time to get deals over the line.
