Manchester United defender refuses to rule out exit

Manchester United could face another decision over the future of one of Michael Carrick’s defensive options before the summer transfer window closes.

Competition for places is expected to increase as the club’s World Cup players return to Carrington and pre-season preparations continue.

Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot are both expected to return to Carrington soon following their World Cup involvement, with competition for the right-back position set to intensify once they rejoin the squad.

Mazraoui has also appointed new representatives after officially signing with London-based agency Panthera.

That decision arrived amid speculation over his future, with AC Milan previously linked and some supporters questioning whether the change of agency could help facilitate a potential move.

However, it is another United defender who has now admitted that an exit could become necessary this season.

United defender leaves exit door open

Manchester United academy defender Jaydan Kamason has refused to rule out leaving the club on loan as he attempts to reach Carrick’s first team.

The 19-year-old impressed after coming off the bench during United’s 5-0 pre-season victory over Rosenborg.

Kamason recorded two assists from right-back, creating goals for Harry Amass and Ethan Williams during an excellent second-half display.

BBC Sport reports that the England youth international is still waiting to discover whether he will remain at Old Trafford or head elsewhere for regular senior football.

Kamason said: “I’m always trying to aspire to get to that level.

“If I need a few loans or whatever, we’ll have to see, but I’m trying to get to that top level – and that’s Manchester United. You have to be ambitious.”

The defender endured two extended injury absences last season, which disrupted his progress through the academy.

He is now focused on remaining fit and proving he can compete for opportunities under Carrick.

Kamason will also benefit from Travis Binnion’s promotion to the senior coaching staff, with the former Under-21 boss providing a clear link between the academy and first team.

A loan could provide valuable experience, but his encouraging pre-season performances may yet convince Carrick to keep him involved.
