Manchester United focusing on Middlesbrough match after Mason Greenwood arrest

One couldn't blame those associated with Premier League club Manchester United for being quite distracted following the suspension and subsequent arrest this past Sunday of forward Mason Greenwood after disturbing allegations that he raped and abused a woman appeared on social media.

Greenwood was further arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill but has been released on bail pending further investigation. While the 20-year-old remains unavailable for selection "until further notice," his teammates must prepare themselves for Friday's FA Cup tie with Middlesbrough.

"We had a good normal week of training with five training sessions including today's training," United interim manager Ralf Rangnick told reporters Thursday, according to Rob Dawson of ESPN. "Obviously, it was a topic within the team but they're human beings and Mason was part of the group before we had our break.

"It was a good week of training, we could train under normal circumstances and we are looking forward to the game tomorrow."

Greenwood's unexpected and indefinite absence caused United to block Jesse Lingard from making a desired move to Newcastle United before the transfer window closed on Monday night. Rangnick added Lingard won't feature against Middlesbrough because he needs to "clear his mind" following the transfer saga that ended with him staying put through at least the end of the ongoing season.
