Manchester United 'intensify talks' to sign €50M midfielder

Manchester United could be about to add a midfielder to their ranks.

Casemiro has discovered the form that was once seen during his debut campaign with the club in the 2022/23 season.

Bruno Fernandes still remains the star man despite his numbers dropping off as a result of a deeper role.

Kobbie Mainoo has failed to establish himself in Ruben Amorim’s first team plans and Mason Mount has managed to impress this season.

However, they look set to add a young midfielder to the squad.

Globo.com have reported have United have “intensified” talks to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes.

Gomes has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks and with the January transfer window fast approaching, it could be just matter of a few weeks before he officially becomes a United player.

It has been a season of disappointment for Wolves so far this season, with just two points gained from a possible 36.

“New manager bounce” was not present in Rob Edwards’ first game as Wolves  manager since leaving EFL Championship high flyers Middlesborough earlier this month.

They suffered a 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace, as their problems deepened, With relegation a severe possibility for the Midlands side, they may want to cash in now whilst some of their star players have value.

At the age of 24, his signing would be a statement of intent from United in a window that has already seen some successful signings.

Senne Lammens, Gomes’ former teammate Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo have all been successful since making the move to Old Trafford.

Despite the quality of the player no other clubs are being linked with acquiring the services of Gomes.

This only adds fuel to the rumours of Gomes’ seemingly imminent move from Wolverhampton to Manchester.
