Manchester United’s influence continues to stretch far beyond the pitch, with players across both the men’s and women’s sides regularly making headlines for achievements at club and international level.

The academy system at Old Trafford has produced a steady stream of talent that has gone on to succeed on the biggest stages in world football.

In the women’s game, United have also established themselves as one of the key development hubs in the English game, with several players becoming regulars for the national team.

That growing reputation has been reflected once again in recent national recognition and honours.

Ella Toone awarded MBE

Ella Toone has been awarded an MBE at Windsor Castle by Prince William, as announced by Manchester United website, marking a major personal milestone in her already decorated career.

The Manchester United midfielder was recognised in the New Year Honours List for her contribution to England’s success in winning back-to-back European Championships in 2022 and 2025.

She played a key role in both campaigns, including a decisive impact off the bench in a dramatic final against Spain, helping England secure another major international trophy in front of a packed Wembley crowd.

Ella Toone now adds this honour to her growing list of achievements, having developed into one of the most important figures in the national team setup.

Her recognition also comes alongside a return to international duty, with the midfielder included in England’s squad for upcoming Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Spain and Ukraine in June.

She has been absent since November due to injury, but her return is a major boost for England as they look to secure qualification for next summer’s tournament in Brazil.

She is joined in the squad by Manchester United teammates Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park, both of whom were rewarded for strong domestic seasons in the Women’s Super League.

Le Tissier continues to lead United’s defence, while Park has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign at Old Trafford following her move from Manchester City, quickly becoming a key creative force.

Beyond the current squad, several former Manchester United players have also been honoured with MBEs for their contributions to football and society.

Former United Women’s captain, Alex Greenwood, also received an MBE earlier this year.

These include Marcus Rashford for his work supporting vulnerable children, Jonny Evans for services to football in Northern Ireland, and Juan Mata for his charitable and sporting contributions, alongside legends such as Peter Schmeichel and others from the club’s history.

It further underlines how Manchester United’s legacy continues to be reflected both on the pitch and in wider recognition beyond football.
