Manchester United midfielder officially signs fifth deal with club

Manchester United’s midfield picture is becoming more clear with the club approaching the beginning of the new seasons.

The additions of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa have added much-needed depth and quality to the position after the departure of Casemiro.

A deal for Manu Kone also appears to be edging closer, with Roma wanting a deal completed by next Friday, although Manchester United are reported to be moving exceptionally slowly in the deal.

If Kone signs for the club, he will join up with Michael Carrick’s squad and will be competing alongside Kobbie Mainoo, Santos, and Tielemans for his place in the middle of the park.

Whilst new signings are important, contract extensions are also just as pivotal. Imogen Trayner has now proved that theory with her confirming that she has signed her fifth contract with the club ahead of the new season starting.

The midfielder, announcing the news on Instagram, said she was “proud to have signed for my fifth year at Man Utd” whilst confirming that she was “ready for next season”.

Throughout the course of the previous campaign, Trayner had also made appearances in the centre-back position.

Manchester United’s academy has produced large amounts of talent with several players making the step up to Marc Skinner’s side as they finished fourth in Women’s Super League last season.

Layla Drury is amongst these, having come through the academy before making seven appearances for the first-team during the course of last season.

For Imogen Trayner, playing at the highest level may be the objective. Signing a new contract with Manchester United takes her a step closer to that objective although there is still a long way to go on the road to playing at first-team level.
