Manchester United reach agreement to sign Ederson

Manchester United have kept their eyes on Atalanta’s star midfielder, Ederson, for over two years now, and now, the wait is seemingly over.

Back in summer 2024, United were looking at starting to renew their midfield, with Ederson being a top contender to come in as a new signing.

However, instead, The Red Devils signed Manuel Ugarte from PSG for £50 million in a move that hasn’t worked out given their desire to offload him this summer.

Now, they have seemingly turned their attention once more to the 26-year-old in a bid to replace Ugarte, with Casemiro also due to leave.

Michele Criscitiello has taken to X to report the agreement, saying that a deal is almost closed with an agreement from all parties involved for a move of £43 million (€50 million).

As such, this will make up nearly a third of United’s £150 million budget set aside to sign three new midfielders this summer, leaving around £107 million for a big-name signing like Sandro Tonali or Elliot Anderson, with the intent to also sign another backup star.

With the deal seemingly on the brink of being formalised, it also brings about the end of Atletico Madrid’s pursuit of Ederson, with reports of agreed personal terms having circulated earlier this year for a summer move.
