Manchester United and West Ham United are reportedly both among the clubs to watch in the race for the potential transfer of Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.
The 23-year-old shot-stopper has never played a competitive game at senior level for Brighton, but has impressed in a few loan spells away from the club.
It now seems that Rushworth could be on the move this summer, with the England Under-21 international likely to look for a new challenge due to a lack of opportunities at Brighton.

Rushworth doesn’t necessarily look like he’s ready to become a regular starter for either of those clubs, but Crook notes that he could be useful to fill these clubs’ homegrown quotas.
Carl Rushworth to Manchester United or West Ham?
Rushworth could, in fairness, be a smart signing for United as they look for competition for the struggling Andre Onana in goal.
The Red Devils surely need to make a change in that position, or at the very least give Onana more to think about as he looks to hold on to his starting spot.
West Ham, meanwhile, might do well to think about that position as well, with some younger blood perhaps needed at the London Stadium in general this summer.
Rushworth is currently on loan at Hull City, but has previously also had impressive spells with Swansea City, Lincoln City and others.
He could well end up leaving Brighton this summer without ever playing a single minute of Premier League football with them.

Aston Villa reportedly eyeing out-of-favor Chelsea striker
It's been a quiet summer for Aston Villa, primarily due to Profit and Sustainability Rules. Evann Guessand and Yasin Ozcan are the only notable additions. Jacob Ramsey and Leon Bailey highlight Villa's outgoing talent. Ramsey's $60.3M sale to Newcastle United is significant for Villa, as the entire fee counts as pure profit due to his status, as he was an academy product. Such an influx of profit should help Villa as they look to round out their summer recruitment. According to Fabrizio Romano, Villa has begun to explore what it would take to acquire Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea. "Aston Villa are pushing to sign Nicolas Jackson — he’s a top target for Unai Emery," Romano reported. "Emery and Jackson previously worked together at Villarreal and had an excellent relationship. Talks are ongoing over formula/structure of the deal as Villa are also aware of competition from other clubs." Jackson has been with Chelsea for two seasons. He stood out during his debut year in London, scoring 14 Premier League goals and adding five assists in 35 appearances. Last season, he added another 10 goals and five assists. Unfortunately for Jackson, Chelsea's additions of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro have ensured that his future with the club is all but over. “He (Jackson) is available, but he’s not going to be part of the squad," Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca recently told the media. "As we said, we have two strikers, two players in that position, and also we know that something can happen before the window closes.” At Villa, Jackson would likely be given a starring role. He's young enough to fit into the current project at the club and is talented enough to fire them back into contention for a Champions League place. Nevertheless, a move to Villa isn't guaranteed. Multiple teams are reportedly interested in signing Jackson before the summer transfer window closes. And, with Chelsea seemingly open to allowing the move to happen, we could witness a bidding war. If that does become the case, Villa will quickly need to bow out of the running.
Bill Belichick takes another shot at Patriots owner Robert Kraft
It is no secret that the relationship between Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft has been strained since Belichick left the New England Patriots. Belichick took an obvious shot at Kraft and the Patriots owner's son, Jonathan, who is the president of the team, during an interview with Ben Volin of the Boston Globe that was published on Thursday. Belichick is preparing for his first-ever season as a college coach with North Carolina. When asked what he has noticed that is different about coaching in college versus the NFL, Belichick insinuated he has enjoyed not having to answer to any members of the Kraft family while doing his job in Chapel Hill. "It’s a much more cohesive, and I’d say unified, view of what we’re trying to do and how we’re trying to do it," Belichick told Volin. "It’s a lot of football, and there’s not much in your way. "There’s no owner, there’s no owner’s son. There’s no cap, everything that goes with the marketing and everything else, which I’m all for that. But it’s way less of what it was at that level." Shots fired. There is no way to interpret that other than a criticism of Robert and Jonathan Kraft. Had Belichick left it at not having to answer to a team owner, you could make the case that he was speaking generally about the NFL. The fact that he added in "owner's son" makes it obvious he was referring to his old bosses, as both Robert and Jonathan are hands-on with the Patriots. Belichick is almost certainly bitter over the way his tenure in New England ended following the 2023 season. He coached the Patriots for 24 seasons and won six Super Bowls, so he likely felt he should have been given more time to turn things around in the post-Tom Brady era. The Kraft family preferred to move on after a 4-13 campaign. Though Belichick insists he is solely focused on the upcoming UNC season, this is not the first time in recent months that he has gone out of his way to throw a jab at Robert Kraft.
Winnipeg Jets Strike Out: Top Remaining NHL Free Agent Joins Central Division Rival
The Jets and any other rival of the Avalanche lost out on Victor Olofsson, as the top remaining NHL free agent has just signed a one-year deal with Colorado. One of the best remaining unrestricted free agents is no longer available. The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Victor Olofsson to a one-year, $1.575 million contract through 2025-26, the team announced Wednesday. PuckPedia reported the agreement Tuesday night. Victor Olofsson entered free agency after a bounce-back season with the Vegas Golden Knights. After six seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, the team that drafted him in the seventh round in 2014, the Swedish winger signed a one-year, $1.075 million contract with Vegas this past summer. That followed a difficult 2023-24 campaign in Buffalo, where he posted just 15 points in 51 games. In Vegas, the 30-year-old regained some of his scoring touch. Although he was limited to 56 games due to injuries, he netted 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points. Not quite the 40-point pace he was in his prime with the Sabres, but Olofsson proved he could be a reliable depth scorer for a playoff team. He registered four points in nine playoff games before the Golden Knights were eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in the second round. Olofsson has 105 goals and 106 assists for 211 points in 370 NHL career games. Last spring was his first taste of playoff action. Olofsson could be the key for the Avalanche to win the Central Division Now, Olofsson becomes a part of a Colorado team that is seeking a return to Central Division supremacy after being defeated by the Dallas Stars in last season's semifinals. This could pose a problem for the Winnipeg Jets, as their direct rivals have just gotten better up front. With stars such as Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and the now-returning Gabriel Landeskog around him, he'll get the chance to find a significant role on a contender. For Olofsson, the Avalanche provides a clean slate and an opportunity to demonstrate that there is still much more to give. If all goes well, Colorado will be giving their Western Conference foes a real hard time in the upcoming season.
Bill Belichick's trademark snark already showing in North Carolina's QB battle
North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick doesn't want anybody to know anything about the way he does things. He's always been tight-lipped, and that's been especially true as it relates to prying questions from the media. Belichick's "we're onto Cincinnati" is an infamous line in the sports world, as is his disdain for allowing anybody to see how "the sausage is made." Perhaps, then, it's no surprise that Belichick's trademark snarkiness revealed itself in a Wednesday news conference for North Carolina. He was asked by a member of the media when he felt he'd be able to name the Tar Heels' starting quarterback for 2025, and the legendary head coach responded with sarcasm. “We’re getting ready to do that this afternoon — to announce the starting lineups and the play times and how we’ll be substituting everything,” Belichick joked, according to Chandler Vessels of On3. “So Brandon will get that to you as soon as we get done. We want to make sure we get that out there right away.” That's classic Belichick snark right there. North Carolina kicks off its 2025 campaign against TCU on Sept. 1, and Belichick doesn't want the Horned Frogs to have any time to prepare for who will be the starting quarterback. The Tar Heels will, of course, have to release a depth chart eventually, but you can bet that Belichick is going to slow-play his quarterback competition as long as possible. Max Johnson, son of former NFL quarterback Brad Johnson, and South Alabama transfer Gio Lopez are the two players in the running for the job. Johnson missed most of last season with a devastating leg injury he suffered in UNC's first game. He's had previous stops at LSU and Texas A M as a starter. Lopez threw for 2,559 yards and 18 touchdowns with five interceptions last season for South Alabama. He also rushed for 465 yards and seven touchdowns.
