Manu Kone hits Manchester United with transfer blow

Manu Kone has been placed at the centre of Manchester United transfer rumours in the past week as the club aim to improve Michael Carrick’s squad further.

United have acted to recruit in the middle of the park so far this summer, signing Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.

Reports have suggested that Kone may be the side’s third midfield signing of the summer although some barriers still remain and need to be overcome if United are to sign the French international.

Roma’s asking price falls at the centre of negotiations, as does the player’s own desires. Roma have already decided to reject an offer worth €40m whilst an offer, worth €50m, from Manchester United has also been reported.

United and Roma have already reached a deal in principle according to some reports, too, increasing the possibility of Manu Kone becoming a Manchester United player this summer.

The chances of that happening have now taken a major blow, however, with Il Tempo reporting that the French international is hoping that a call from Paris Saint Germain comes.

Tempo have also stated that Kone remains firmly in the sights of Manchester United but no offer has been submitted yet. Roma are also likely to accept any offer that exceeds €50m, according to the outlet.

With this latest report suggesting that the deal is not as far along as previously suggested, focus will switch back to Manchester United who appear to hold the cards needed to complete the deal.

Should United choose not to pursue a deal, even after firm interest, Manu Kone may be forced to stay at Roma, unless PSG called.
