Michael Carrick makes decision on Shea Lacey future

Shea Lacey emerged as an exciting option for the Manchester United first team in 2025/26.

The 19-year-old winger made his Premier League debut at Villa Park before exciting cameos against Brighton & Hove Albion and Burnley, particularly.

The left-footed playmaker, who primarily plays his football from the right wing, also scored 10 goals in the Premier League 2 last campaign, as well as delivering 4 assists.

Manchester United now have the chance to choose their prospect’s course.

One potential option is to loan Shea Lacey out next season, as the club were reportedly set to do in the 2026/27 campaign.

However, according to Samuel Luckhurst for The Sun, sources say Michael Carrick wants to keep Shea Lacey in the Manchester United squad until the January transfer window, at the earliest.

It will provide a chance for Lacey to impress when the chances come, and they could be more frequent given the Red Devils have both domestic and European football to contend with next campaign.

Should that not go to plan, United can loan Shea Lacey out, perhaps to a Championship club – as they did effectively with Harry Amass and Radek Vitek last season.

Shea Lacey scored in Manchester United’s 5-0 romp over Norwegian side Rosenborg in pre-season. An impressive performance made it especially clear how the youngster deserves chances to shine. It looks as if Michael Carrick will give him just that.

The goal and quality showing sent a clear message: Lacey will want to compete for chances to shine in official matches next season.

At 19 years old, the winger, currently contracted at the club until 2029, will likely be growing in stature and confidence as the new season approaches.

Exciting times are ahead for Manchester United and one of their finest academy products coming through the ranks.
