Manchester United’s squad continues to take shape this summer, with further movement in the forward department as the club adjust their attacking options ahead of the new season.

The focus has increasingly shifted toward long-term planning in the striker role, following a campaign that saw multiple changes in personnel and loan exits across Europe.

One of those departures has now been made permanent, bringing an end to Rasmus Hojlund’s spell as a Manchester United player.

Rasmus Hojlund officially joins Napoli

The Denmark international has officially joined Napoli, as announced on their website, on a permanent deal after spending last season on loan in Italy, where he rediscovered his scoring form and consistency.

During his loan campaign, Rasmus Hojlund scored 16 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions, helping Napoli secure silverware and a strong league finish, including victory in the Supercoppa Italiana and a runners-up position in Serie A.

Napoli have now activated their option to sign the striker permanently following their qualification for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League, with the deal valued at around €44 million (£38.4m).

Hojlund originally arrived at Old Trafford from Atalanta in 2023 as a boyhood Manchester United supporter, going on to score 26 goals in 95 appearances for the club.

He was also part of the squad that lifted the FA Cup in 2024 at Wembley, coming off the bench in the final against Manchester City.

After returning to Italy on loan at the start of the 2025/26 season, the striker quickly settled back into Serie A, which ultimately convinced Napoli to make his move permanent.

Following confirmation of the transfer, Hojlund took to Instagram to reflect on his time at Old Trafford, writing:

“I’m now officially a Napoli player and I’m saying goodbye to Manchester United.

“That feels weird, because for the past year I already feel like a Napoli player. The way you fans supported me, made me feel like home and let me find my confidence again is something I’m so grateful for.

“To say goodbye to Manchester United is something that kinda feels emotional too. My childhood dream came true by playing at Old Trafford in a red jersey.

“So the goal today symbolizes a new confident start, in which I will give everything for the time ahead to Napoli, and a thank you to all the fans, players and staff of Manchester United who made the dream I had as a kid come true. It’s time for new dreams, so let’s chase them”.

The move marks another notable change in United’s attacking department as they continue to refine their squad structure moving forward.
