Arsenal are the most dangerous team in English football right now, and for as much as the pundits love to doubt the Gunners in an effort to rage bait their die hard fan base for engagement, there is no question that this team is in the driver’s seat to win the Premier League title.
The foundation of Mikel Arteta’s side is obviously built on a deep, world class defense, and the new midfield anchor partnership of Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi is also one of the best in the world.
But there are unsung heroes in the attack who deserve more praise, and in addition to the annoying scapegoating of striker Viktor Gyokeres, another key attacking player in Kai Havertz has been overlooked and over criticized for far too long.
Although he won the Champions League title with rivals Chelsea, Havertz, like fellow former Bundesliga star Timo Werner, never quite took that next step at Stamford Bridge.
But unlike Werner, Havertz has been significantly better since leaving for a rival in North London, and even though injuries have held him back from fully blossoming, they have honestly been the only glaring negative about the German international at the Emirates Stadium.
If you look just as what Havertz has done on the pitch every season since he has arrived at Arsenal, he has been one of the most skilled and difference making all around attacking players in the Premier League.
No, he is not a pure No. 9, but Arsenal knew that. What they are now seeing with a true 9 in their squad in Gyokeres and now that Kai Havertz is healthy is that the former Bayer Leverkusen star is a truly special player.
Havertz can function in a variety of roles as a midfielder or center forward, and while he is not purely one or the other, in that hybrid mix where he can just focus on being a footballer, he is a classy player capable of scoring and assisting while moving the ball progressively with his passing and dribbling.
A fine footballer in those tight spaces and at the fine margins, Havertz is the kind of luxury baller every top club needs to be elite, and while nobody is noticing but Arsenal fans, Havertz is proving those who deemed him a Premier League flop very wrong indeed.
