Newcastle United are the latest club said to be targeting Atalanta talent Marco Palestra, along with Inter and Arsenal, but there are mixed Manchester City reports.
The wing-back has attracted huge interest after his strong performances on loan at Cagliari this season and playing for the senior Italy squad.
He only turned 21 in March and can play as a right-back or in more advanced attacking roles, including as part of a trident attack.
A product of the Atalanta youth academy, he is not expected to remain in Bergamo after the Cagliari loan, instead going straight onto the market for at least €45m.
Inter are very eager to secure the Italian, but Premier League clubs are circling, with Manchester City mentioned by Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia.
However, Mail Sport claim today that City’s interest in Palestra has cooled a little.
Instead, Newcastle United dived in and are hopeful of snapping up another Italian star after Sandro Tonali.
As for Inter, they have the double problem of the asking price and knowing they can only afford him if first selling Denzel Dumfries.
