Paris Saint-Germain is set for a major early-season test up next in Ligue 1 play with the away clash against Olympique de Marseille.

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino has opted to use several formations so far this season. More so, he opted to go with a three-at-the-back setup over the latter stages of PSG’s recent UEFA Champions League home group stage fixture against RB Leipzig.

In speaking ahead of PSG’s clash against Marseille, Pochettino touched on the use of the three-at-the-back defensive setup and whether it may be a tactic that he plans to occasionally go with over the remainder of the season.

“Yes, if you have followed our career, it is a system that we used at Espanyol, Southampton and Tottenham,” Pochettino said. “It depends on the characteristics of the players, you have to adapt to it. In the context of the game against Leipzig, we thought it could bring us something, that’s why we put it in place.”

In the big picture, the likes of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe sure will have a major task ahead in leading PSG’s attack in the match. Messi is still looking for his first goal in Ligue 1 play this season, while Mbappe sure aims for yet another grand showing against Marseille.
