Robert Lewandowski has officially completed a new move after bringing an end to his successful spell with Barcelona.
The Polish international had previously been linked with Manchester United on multiple occasions.
The Red Devils made contact over a potential transfer while Ruben Amorim was still at Old Trafford.
United had internally discussed the possibility of signing the experienced forward as an elite short-term option, while earlier reports even claimed Sir Jim Ratcliffe blocked a move due to concerns surrounding age and wages.
Despite that interest, Lewandowski’s future has now finally been resolved.
Chicago Fire FC have officially announced the signing of Robert Lewandowski from Barcelona.
The MLS side confirmed on their official website that the 37-year-old has joined as a Designated Player and signed a contract running through to the end of the 2027/28 MLS season.
Lewandowski leaves Europe following an extraordinary career that has seen him establish himself as one of the greatest goalscorers of his generation.
The striker spent the last four years at Barcelona.
He scored 120 goals in 193 appearances while helping the Catalan club win multiple trophies, including La Liga last month.
Before moving to Spain, Lewandowski enjoyed an iconic spell at Bayern Munich, where he scored an incredible 344 goals in 375 appearances and won the UEFA Champions League alongside 10 Bundesliga titles.
The former Borussia Dortmund star also remains Poland’s all-time leading goalscorer with 89 goals in 167 international appearances.
Chicago described Lewandowski as a “global football icon” and highlighted that he has scored more than 700 goals for club and country throughout his remarkable career.
The move represents a major statement of intent from the MLS side.
They currently sit third in the Eastern Conference and are preparing to move into their new stadium, McDonald’s Park, in 2028.
Lewandowski had repeatedly been linked with Manchester United over the past year, with reports suggesting the club admired both his leadership qualities and finishing ability.
However, a move to Old Trafford never materialised and the veteran striker has instead opted to begin an exciting new chapter in the United States.
