Robin van Persie’s time in the dugout at Feyenoord has already delivered headlines – and not all of them comfortable.

The former Manchester United striker has come under scrutiny in the Dutch Eredivisie after a mixed run of results, while also being linked with potential managerial ambitions further down the line, including suggestions that he could one day return to Old Trafford in a coaching capacity.

Despite the pressure, van Persie has remained active behind the scenes.

Recent reports saw him distance himself from speculation surrounding a move for former Manchester United player Jesse Lingard, insisting transfer decisions would be led by the club’s technical structure.

Now, however, the Dutchman has landed a major signing – one that signals serious intent.

Feyenoord have officially confirmed on their website that four-time English Premier League winner Raheem Sterling MBE has signed for the club until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The 31-year-old joins as a free agent after terminating his contract with Chelsea last month.

As a free agent, Raheem Sterling was able to negotiate without transfer window restrictions and ultimately opted for a move to the Netherlands after discussions with Feyenoord CEO Dennis te Kloese and Robin van Persie himself.

Sterling’s CV speaks for itself.

Since breaking through at Liverpool at 17, he has gone on to play for Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.

He has won four Premier League titles, an FA Cup, four Carabao Cup and two Community Shields, while scoring 182 domestic goals and 86 in European competition.

For Robin van Persie, this is a statement signing.

For Feyenoord, it is a signal of ambition.

And for Raheem Sterling, it is a new chapter in a decorated career – one now unfolding under the guidance of a former Manchester United icon.

It also represents a fascinating reunion of Premier League pedigree in Rotterdam, as van Persie looks to blend experience and star quality into his evolving Feyenoord project.
