Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has kept the door open for his out-of-favour stars

The 2024/25 season left a bitter taste for Manchester United. Finishing 15th in the league, losing to Spurs in the Europa League final and being eliminated from European football in the 2025/26 season—all of these have brought the club to a point where there are more questions and fewer answers. The club took a tough decision by bringing in Ruben Amorim mid-season, but the situation got worse instead of improving. Now it is not just a matter of one season; this decline has continued for many years.

In this state of transition, fans were hoping that something big would change. Amorim getting a full season is a start. However, just changing the manager is not enough. The backbone of the club has been shaken. The energy of the dressing room, the commitment of the players, and most importantly, the lack of a vision have made the team hollow. In such a situation, the transfer window becomes important. This is the opportunity from which the club decide their direction.

Transfer activities are gaining momentum

The club have made three important moves so far this summer. The arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford directly strengthens the first team. Also, the signing of young Diogo Leon shows that the club are also keeping an eye on the future. All these deals make the club’s intentions clear. Now they are also trying to get rid of players who do not fit into Amorim’s plans.

Amidst all this, Marcus Rashford’s move to Barcelona is a strong message. Amorim made it clear in the press conference ahead of the match against West Ham United that if Jadon Sancho, Antony or Alejandro Garnacho stay at the club, due to the club not getting the desired money for the players, then they can get a chance under him. That is, the matter is not completely over, but now the ball is in these players’ court.

“If they reach a point where they have to join the team, they will join the team because they are our players. If the club doesn’t get the right price, they will stay. I am ready to receive the players.”

A fan’s thought: Is Amorim on the right track?

Being United fans, this period has become very tiring. Every year, some expectations are raised, and then the same disappointment follows. However, this time, something is different. Amorim’s approach is clear that only those players who are willing to throw themselves into the club will stay. Players like Cunha and Mbeumo, who bring energy and versatility, could change the complexion of the team.

Rashford’s leaving was an expected decision; he needed a new environment. United are now driven by decisions rather than emotions, and that’s a good thing. Sancho, Antony and Garnacho have potential, but now they are no longer part of the plans of the club, but United are still finding it hard to offload them for the right money. If they stay, the hope will be to make better use of these players, just what our manager wants to do, as the club have no other options. Amorim needs time, but he also needs to be tough. The club needs hunger, not just names. If Amorim can instill that into the squad, next season may not be European, but it will still matter.
