Manchester United’s summer midfield plans have already taken several twists.

While the Red Devils ultimately secured Andrey Santos and have Youri Tielemans waiting to be officially unveiled, another midfielder who had been high on their shortlist is once again attracting attention.

Now, his future could still involve a major move, just not to Old Trafford.

AC Milan enter the race for Ederson

AC Milan have entered the race to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson after Manchester United’s move for the Brazilian fell apart, as reported by Calcio Mercato.

The 27-year-old looked destined to become a United player before the transfer unexpectedly collapsed after he underwent his medical in England.

Reports claimed Manchester United raised concerns over elements of the midfielder’s medical assessment, leading the club to abandon the deal despite previously being prepared to meet Atalanta’s valuation.

Rather than revisit negotiations, United shifted their focus elsewhere.

The club have already confirmed the arrival of Andrey Santos from Chelsea, while Youri Tielemans has completed his medical and signed his Manchester United contract after becoming the preferred alternative in midfield.

Despite that setback, interest in Ederson has not disappeared.

According to reports from Italy, AC Milan have now opened discussions with Atalanta as they explore the possibility of bringing the Brazilian to San Siro.

The midfielder is said to be a priority target for Milan’s new manager Ruben Amorim, who is keen to strengthen the heart of his side ahead of the new campaign.

According to Calcio Mercato, Ederson is a dream signing for Ruben Amorim.

Atalanta are believed to value Ederson at around €50 million, although with his contract running until June 2027, there is growing belief the Bergamo club could eventually be forced to lower their asking price if an extension is not agreed.

The Rossoneri are now expected to assess whether a deal is financially achievable before deciding if they should formalise their interest.

Juventus also remain in the picture after emerging as another club monitoring Ederson following the collapse of his move to Manchester United.

While United’s pursuit is now firmly over, the Brazilian could still be on course for a high-profile transfer this summer, with AC Milan now attempting to succeed where the Red Devils could not.
