Monday’s reports indicate that Italy internationals Gianluca Scamacca and Giorgio Scalvini are hoping to return in time for the start of the 2025-26 season after seasons to forget for both of them in 2024-25.
Both Scamacca and Scalvini suffered cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries during the summer of 2024, which ruled them out of the first half of the 2024-25 campaign.
Scalvini suffered an injury just before Italy’s unsuccessful EURO 2024 campaign , while Scamacca was dealt a blow during pre-season with Atalanta.
Both players made initially impressive returns from their ACL injuries: Scalvini returning in November, Scamacca at the beginning of February, but both were then dealt set-backs, effectively ending both of their seasons before the Serie A run-in.
Scalvini made a handful of appearances before picking up a serious injury to his shoulder, while Scamacca played for just five minutes in Serie A before requiring another operation, this time on his hamstring.
Reports from Quotidiano Sportivo (via TMW) claim that Scamacca decided against going on a honeymoon with his wife, whom he married a fortnight ago, in order to focus on his injury recovery and rehabilitation.
He and Scalvini are both expected to be back in training with Atalanta in mid-July according to Monday’s reports.
That means both will miss the beginning of pre-season training, but could be in contention to return to competitive action in the early stages of the 2025-26 campaign.
