Sir David Beckham officially partners with airline company

Manchester United fans of a certain generation will always associate David Beckham with the club’s most dominant era, having come through the academy as part of the famous Class of ’92 before winning six Premier League titles and the Champions League under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Since retiring, Beckham has built an ownership empire that stretches well beyond his playing days, holding a stake in Salford City alongside his former United teammates before leading a fresh takeover consortium there with Gary Neville.

His biggest project by far remains Inter Miami, the MLS franchise he helped establish after exercising an option written into his original LA Galaxy contract back in 2007, and which he now serves as president and primary global face.

That project has continued to grow commercially this week regardless of the club’s on-field results, which have included an MLS Cup triumph last season and a run to the Campeones Cup final this year which they won.

Inter Miami have announced a multi-year partnership with American Airlines, the club’s first-ever Official Airline Partner, as announced on their website.

The collaboration also makes American an Official Partner of Inter Miami and a Founding Partner of Nu Stadium and Miami Freedom Park, with the airline becoming the entitlement partner of the West Club, which will be renamed the American Lounge.

Spanning the entire West Stand and featuring more than 1,800 seats, the premium hospitality space is designed to offer fans an elevated matchday experience, with the partnership also including international rights to support both organisations’ global growth.

The announcement comes just weeks after Beckham’s interest in a completely different club was ruled out entirely.

Beckham had been part of a consortium exploring a takeover of French side Nantes, with Ouest-France reporting his name had come up repeatedly in high-level discussions as owner Waldemar Kita sought a buyer.

RMC has since reported that the Beckham option is “off the table,” bringing an end to speculation over a move for the struggling Ligue 2 outfit, who currently sit bottom of the table having lost all three of their opening league fixtures following relegation from Ligue 1.

Beckham’s summer also included an unsuccessful approach for Pep Guardiola to become Inter Miami’s new head coach following Javier Mascherano’s departure, with the Spaniard reportedly making clear he had no interest in an immediate return to management.

Inter Miami eventually turned to Cristian Gonzalez as their new head coach last month, with Guillermo Hoyos having steadied the ship as interim boss in between.

For Sir David Beckham, the American Airlines deal represents another step in cementing Inter Miami’s financial footing.
