AC Milan have been linked with a move for Napoli defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo, but a report has claimed that signing him will be very tough.

According to what Telelombardia reported earlier today, Di Lorenzo’s name has ended up on Milan’s wish list, especially if their management decides to entrust the head coaching role to Antonio Conte.

Calciomercato.com have responded to that claim, stating that the situation surrounding Di Lorenzo’s future must be monitored, especially because last month his agent Mario Giuffredi threatened farewell after the criticism his client got.

“Criticising is normal, but people have short memories. In recent years I don’t remember a bad match from Di Lorenzo. Giovanni was one of the best full-backs in the world,” he said.

“His is not a season worthy of an 8 [out of 10], but not even of 5. And then it is not a single situation: the season is below standard for the whole team.

“In June we will take stock and make our assessments, also taking into account people’s short memories. It is right that we too take note of the situation and make choices.”

Di Lorenzo is the captain of Napoli, he is very attached to the team and the city, so for the moment he is only focused on the pitch and on the Champions League commitments games Barcelona and on the chase for fourth place.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis for his part is calm because the full-back’s contract runs until 2028 and he is the fourth-highest paid player in the squad with 3 million, after Victor Osimhen, Stanislav Lobotka and Piotr Zielinski.

The Partenopei have not yet stated an asking price, because they consider Di Lorenzo a pillar of the present and future. If he were to be put up for sale, then it’s hard to imagine him going for under €25-30m.
