Thierry Henry’s remarks seen as dig at Kylian Mbappe after Real Madrid exit

Thierry Henry analysed the defeat on CBS Sports and appeared to question aspects of Real Madrid’s approach without naming individuals.

He said: “Against Bayern, you can’t make any mistakes. They are a very balanced side and don’t always give you chances, but here they gave Real Madrid an opportunity.”

“But with Real Madrid, if you’re down to 10 men against Bayern and you’re not prepared to go the extra mile and defend as a team, a side like Bayern will punish you,” the former striker stated.

Although no player was mentioned directly, many fans interpreted the remarks as a reference to Mbappe’s defensive contribution, an aspect of his game that has been questioned since his time at PSG.

Kylian Mbappe’s record in latter Champions League stages

Kylian Mbappe has not scored in a Champions League semi-final or final since 2017, and Madrid’s elimination confirmed his drought will remain at least for one more year.

His last goal at that stage came for Monaco against Juventus in the second leg of their semi-final.

Since then, he spent six seasons at Paris Saint-Germain and is now in his second campaign at Real Madrid.

Despite his overall scoring record, that run has remained unchanged in the latter stages of the competition.
