Tottenham Hotspur need to bring in attacking reinforcements in the summer to improve the quality of the front line. The Lilywhites have struggled in the final third of the pitch and Ange Postecoglou’s men have lost several games by small margins due to their inefficiency in front of goal. It is clear to see that a major squad overhaul is needed in the summer and new signings are needed to close the gap on the club’s rivals next season.
Spurs have still not managed to replace legendary striker Harry Kane. The Lilywhites signed Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth last summer, and it is fair to say that the England international took some time to get going at N17. However, Solanke has finally found his mojo again in front of goal and scored some crucial goals in recent weeks.
But other forwards in the team have struggled to make an impact under Big Ange this season. Richarlison has missed most parts of the season due to injury issues. The Brazil international has fallen down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou as well. January signing Mathys Tel has also struggled to make an impact at N17 since arriving from Bayern Munich. But the Frenchman is still young and has time to improve.
There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to bolster their attack in the summer. The Lilywhites will first need to sell players to afford new signings. With Richarlison heading for the exit doors and Mathys Tel facing an uncertain future, Daniel Levy will need to bring in a new striker to compete with Dominic Solanke next season.
As per Tottenham News, Spurs are said to be interested in signing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP. The Lilywhites view the Sweden international as one of the best forwards in the world and want to try and bring him to N17 in the summer. But former Tottenham scout Bryan King believes Spurs will face intense competition for the 26-year-old’s signature. Speaking to Tottenham News, King said,
“I think Tottenham could compete with Arsenal for a player such as this. It would be surprising if he doesn’t end up at Manchester United, given his connection with Ruben Amorim. This is a player who has scored a lot of goals in Portugal and England. Therefore, if Tottenham want to sign him, they will face serious competition.”
Bryan King suggested that Tottenham will need to fend off competition from Arsenal and Manchester United for Gyokeres’ signature. The former Spurs scout also added that United might win the race to sign the prolific striker due to the past connection between Ruben Amorim and Gyokeres.
If Tottenham manage to land the 26-year-old in the summer, then it will surely be considered as one of the best deals done by the club in a long time. Signing Viktor Gyokeres would mean that Dominic Solanke would get displaced from the starting eleven in no time. The Sweden international has proved his worth in Portugal, as well as, in the Champions League this season.
As per Sofascore, Gyokeres has managed to score 51 goals and provide 12 assists in just 48 games in all competitions this season. He would be an ideal fit for the Lilywhites as well. The prolific striker likes to play as a target man and he is very efficient in front of goal. The Sporting CP star also tends to anticipate the crosses well and get into scoring positions for the team. His explosive pace is ideal for counter-attacking football.
