Tottenham Hotspur need to bring in reinforcements in the summer after enduring a disastrous campaign. The Lilywhites need to make signings a priority, and it is necessary to bolster the quality of the squad for next season. Ange Postecoglou’s future also remains uncertain, which has hindered the possibility of negotiating a deal with any player yet.
Spurs forwards have massively underperformed this season. Statement signing Dominic Solanke did not have the best start to life at N17 and struggled with injuries during the important part of the campaign. However, the England international has found his goal-scoring touch again in recent games and managed to find the back of the net against Liverpool and Eintracht Frankfurt.
But the other forwards have just not stepped up and performed to the required expectations. Club captain Heung-Min Son is clearly past his best and has struggled to find consistency. Whereas, Richarlison has not stayed fit and it is looking likely that the Brazilian will head for the exit doors along with Timo Werner in the summer. Mathys Tel has also struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League after a slow start at N17.
It is no surprise that Tottenham iare willing to add more firepower to its attack in the summer. The Lilywhites want to bring in a new striker to compete with Dominic Solanke and provide competition for the England international’s spot in the starting eleven. With Richarlison heading for the exit, it seems right that Daniel Levy is focused on replacing the Brazilian with a better striker.
According to RMC Sports (via Get Football News France), Spurs are interested in signing Lille striker Jonathan David in the summer. The Canadian international’s contract expires at the end of the season and the Lilywhites have a fantastic chance of signing the prolific striker as a free signing as soon as the transfer window opens. The 25-year-old is keen to leave Lille for pastures new and has no plans on extending his contract at the French club.
However, Tottenham are not the only club interested in signing the forward. Olympique Marseille, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Liverpool are some of the clubs that are also looking to bolster their squad and bring in the Lille No.9. His wages do not seem to be a problem as well. But it is also being reported that David prefers to play in Spain, making Barcelona the frontrunners to sign the ex-Gent striker.
Jonathan David is enduring a tremendous campaign with Lille in Ligue 1. The Canadian international is regularly finding the back of the net for his club and has led Lille in the race for a Champions League place for next season. David has led the French team to 3rd place in the league, and they are only two points below second-place Marseille.
As per Sofascore, Jonathan David has played in 46 games in all competitions for the French club, scoring 25 goals and providing 11 assists. The prolific striker has also created 18 big chances and has a 82.4% passing accuracy. David has a season rating of 7.23 and has been a major reason why the Les Dogues are soaring high in Ligue 1.
He will be a perfect fit for Tottenham. The 25-year-old is efficient in front of the goal and boasts the ability to retain the ball under pressure. David is great at initiating a press and tends to win the ball higher up the pitch regularly. The Canadian striker also likes to link up with other players and act as a decoy to create space for his teammates. Jonathan David is a good fit for Ange Postecoglou’s system. He will also provide a different dynamic to the attack.
