Tottenham player made transfer intentions clear in March, tough talks with Daniel Levy to follow

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season, and he is keen on a move to Atletico Madrid.

According to Spanish publication MARCA, the player has made his intentions clear to the club chairman, Daniel Levy, back in March, and the Spanish club will now begin tough negotiations with the English club in order to get the deal done.

He has been a key player for Tottenham

Tottenham value him at €70 million, and the Spanish outfit are hoping to sign him for a more reasonable price. The 27-year-old has been outstanding for Tottenham since joining the club, and he helped them win the UEFA Europa League last week.

The South American defender produced a man-of-the-match performance in the final against Manchester United, and he is the best defender at the club. They will be disappointed to lose a player of his quality, but it seems that the player has already made up his mind.

Cristian Romero wants a new challenge

The defender has won the World Cup and the Copa America with his country, and he will look to win major trophies at the club level now. Having won the UEFA Europa League with Tottenham, he will feel that this is the right time for him to take up a new challenge . Atletico Madrid might be able to provide him with the opportunity to fight for a league title next season. It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can finalise an agreement.

The report from Spain claims that Atletico Madrid are aware of the fact that negotiations with Levy will be tough, and they have decided to involve Miguel Angel Gil in talks. He has previously dealt with the Tottenham chairman, and it remains to be seen whether he can help the club get the deal done.
